Presenter: The Italian Job
We are pleased to anounce the first Vancouver Skiers Bocce tournament.
Never played bocce before? Good, that makes it an even playing field.
Chances are that your opponents have never played either.
But do not despair. We have secured the services of the world leading bocce coach!
He will teach us all the tricks of the sport. Keep in mind that we will be playing
on the only indoor bocce courts in North America.
There will be a small cover charge of 20'000 liras pp or about $5.- Canadian. However
if you bring a friend, you and your friend play for free! Your friend must be a "not yet" member of our club.
Should you get thirsty while playing and socializing, you may go to the adjacent pub and have a beer or
perhaps a glass of vino. If you are a teetotaler you may choose a glass of S.Pellegrino and share stories
of the one who got away or your last trip to Italy or how much you like the VP or....
It will be all fun and games.
Buon Natale e Felice Anno Nuovo

Presenter: Byron Mah & Patti Romenko
Club members Patti Romanko and Byron Mah travelled to Norway in March 2008 to ski at several of the multitude
of groomed trail systems in that country. These included:
The high-mountain plateau trails in and around the town of Geilo,
about halfway between Oslo and the Atlantic coast;
The scenic and pastoral trails around the resorts of Gala and Fefor in the Peer Gynt Region;
The very large trail system in and around the vibrant Sjusjoen community
just east of the city of Lillehammer, which hosted the 1994 Winter Olympics.
In addition to the skiing at those areas, Patti & Byron also had a chance to explore
the main city of Oslo, the scenic community of Flam at the base of a fjord, and the town of Tromso,
which is located about 400 km north of the Arctic Circle. This presentation will provide a feel for the sights,
the landscape, and the communities that Patti & Byron experienced during their visit to Norway.
Tonight we will have several Cypress day passes as door prizes. Not only will you get a once in a lifetime
presentation about skiing in Norway, you may be the lucky winner of such day pass. All you have to do is attend the presentation.
But wait, it does get even better! You could also win a $50.- or $75.- gift certificate to Sigges!! In order to qualify for
this draw, you must bring a friend. Your frien(s) must be "not yet members" of our club.

Presenter: Lucy Kenward
Back by Popular Demand!
Crossing Colombia: On Two Wheels from the Equator to the Ocean.
Vancouver Skiers member Lucy Kenward recently completed a solo bicycle trip across South America. From Tierra del Fuego National Park
at the southernmost tip of Argentina, she pedaled nearly twenty thousand kilometers north along the spine of the Andes to Tayrona National Park
on Colombia's Atlantic coast. This presentation is the sequel to her earlier slide show of photos and stories from Argentina to Peru.
While travelling through Ecuador and Colombia, you'll stop in the vibrant colonial cities of Cuenca and Cartagena, visit the colourful
indigenous market in Otavalo, climb into the high-elevation Paramo beneath the Avenue of the Volcanoes and plunge hundreds of meters into
the steep-sided Canon de Chicamocha. Along the way, you'll meet a wide variety of local people, sample typical and unusual foods and celebrate
the New Year-all without leaving your chair!
